One of the children’s favorites. Story Grannie is a former preschool teacher, now retired, who loves children and children’s books. She is a member of Calvary Lutheran Church who volunteers on Fridays to read a favorite book for the week and Bible story to each classroom. The children’s excitement grow as they take weekly turns to pull the story prop out of her big pocket apron to see what it is.
TSCPL Story Readers
Employees from Topeka-Shawnee County Public Library come to the center once a month to visit each classroom. With them they bring story books to read, music to sing and dance to and finger play props to engage the children.
We have a wonderful set of young at heart retired helpers from the church who donate their time to serving our children lunch. The children love to see them and look forward to their smiles.
Set once a week and presented by our Pastor or Director, chapel consists of Bible stories, young children’s Bible songs, object lessons and prayers. A field trip to the sanctuary of Calvary Lutheran Church sets the stage for this time in spiritual development.
